Deputy Headteacher

To start 1st September 2017 or sooner.

The Governors at Fairfield School are seeking to appoint an outstanding and experienced Deputy Headteacher to work alongside the Acting Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher and other school leaders, to support the school’s continued improvements.

Fairfield School caters for the needs of children and young people aged 3-19 years with severe or profound learning difficulties. Each student has a statement of Special Educational Needs or an Educational, Health and Care Plan and those who attend are unable to access a supported place in a mainstream school or other special provision. Many of our pupils have additional complex needs linked to physical or health difficulties and sensory impairments.  Bespoke and adapted learning environments are provided alongside a child centred teaching approach. We aim to give each pupil every opportunity to achieve their full potential, to be happy and enjoy their time at school.

Working with other leaders in school, the successful candidate will, amongst other roles, be jointly responsible for:

  • Leading on key aspects of teaching and learning and curriculum development.
  • Monitoring the performance management of associate staff
  • OverseeingAnnual Reviews and the administration of the EHCP process
  • Data analysis – assessments, recording and reporting
  • Leading on enrichment, interventions and the use of the PPF to support school improvement and pupil progress.

A strong pastoral background, comprehensive knowledge and experience within an SEN role and/or Special School is essential.

Additionally, the ability to work effectively with other leaders to develop their capacity and effectiveness, build strong relationships with governors, staff, pupil, parents and community partners will be a key element of the successful candidate’s role.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All staff are subject to an enhanced DBS check. A conviction may not exclude candidates from appointment but will be considered as part of the recruitment process.

If you require further information about the role, please contact the school on telephone: 01924 326103 or you can visit the school website at
